Historical Context
La Línea originated in Ciudad Juárez as a network involving active and former police officers and became the Juárez Cartel’s armed enforcement wing. Over time, it developed into a significant criminal organization involved in trafficking and territorial disputes throughout Chihuahua. The name Nuevo Cártel de Juárez, or NCDJ, has also been used by members of this network.
Cartel-focused reporting identifies individuals wearing this “Talibanes” patch with La Línea/NCDJ. The name has earlier associations with the Juárez Cartel: reporting from 2003 described a group called Los Talibanes working for the organization. However, a direct connection between that historical group and the modern patch wearers has not been established. The contemporary group’s founding date, leadership, and precise position within the wider organization remain poorly documented.
