This 90×150 cm flag features a bold and striking design central to contemporary Shia identity and resistance symbolism. Set against a vivid green field with red borders, the centerpiece is a detailed portrait of Imam Hussain ibn Ali, a revered figure in Shia Islam and martyr of the Battle of Karbala. Above him are blood drops symbolizing his sacrifice and the blood of the righteous.
Dominating the composition is the stylized image of the Zulfiqar, the legendary bifurcated sword said to have been gifted to Imam Ali by the Prophet Muhammad. Across the blade is the iconic Arabic slogan:
“لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار”
“There is no hero but Ali, no sword but Zulfiqar.”
Above the portrait is the phrase:
“يبقى الحسين أمامي”
“Hussain remains before me.”
—a rallying cry expressing unwavering allegiance to Imam Hussain’s legacy and path.
At the bottom, in defiance of Sunni extremist groups, the flag reads:
“و داعش تحت أقدامي”
“And ISIS is beneath my feet.”
—symbolizing the ideological and physical rejection of Daesh (ISIS) by Shia forces and communities.
This flag is commonly seen in Shia-majority regions of Iraq and Iran, particularly during militia mobilizations, commemorations of Karbala, or anti-ISIS demonstrations. It is not affiliated with a specific PMF unit but represents a broader ideological stance within the Shia resistance narrative.
