Embroidered reproduction of a combined Russia–Niger flag patch worn by a member of the security detail accompanying Nigerien leader Abdourahamane Tiani. The original was displayed on a chest pouch directly beneath a circular Alliance of Sahel States (AES) badge.
The design combines Russia’s white, blue, and red tricolor with Niger’s orange, white, and green flag. A black diagonal divides the two flags, retaining the visible portion of Niger’s central orange disc. A black satin border frames the rectangular patch.

Historical Context
Following the July 2023 coup, Niger’s military government moved away from its longstanding security partnerships with France and the United States while strengthening military cooperation with Russia. French forces departed in December 2023. Niger revoked the agreement authorizing the American military presence in March 2024, and U.S. forces completed their withdrawal in September that year.
Russian military instructors arrived in April 2024 to train Nigerien forces and develop bilateral defense cooperation. The combined Russian and Nigerien flags fit this context of closer security relations between the two countries.
Niger also joined Mali and Burkina Faso in establishing the Alliance of Sahel States in September 2023, followed by a confederation treaty in July 2024. The patch’s appearance alongside an AES badge connects its documented use to this broader realignment in the Sahel.
