Historical Context
The Española formation was created in 2022 from Russian football ultras and other volunteers taking part in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Its football imagery reflected those recruiting origins. The formation was led by Stanislav Orlov, whose callsign Ispanets, meaning “Spaniard,” was reflected in the unit’s name.
Española announced its dissolution and reorganization on October 3, 2025. The transfer of personnel and elements into other structures marked a change from the brigade represented by this insignia. Orlov’s death was confirmed publicly on December 19, 2025, although the announcement did not specify its date or cause.
