Historical Context
Española emerged in 2022 as a Russian volunteer formation drawing recruits from football ultras and other volunteers fighting in Ukraine. Led by Stanislav Orlov, known as Ispanets or “Spaniard,” it became associated with the designation 88th Reconnaissance and Sabotage Brigade.
On October 3, 2025, the formation announced its dissolution and reorganization, with personnel and elements moving into other structures. Orlov’s death was publicly confirmed on December 19, 2025; the initial announcement did not establish its date or cause. This patch documents the original formation’s wartime identity.
