Historical Context
The 114th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade developed from the military formation commonly known as the Vostok Battalion, established in the Donetsk region in 2014. The formation was subsequently reorganized as the 11th Separate Enakievo-Danube Motor Rifle Regiment, later receiving the honorary Guards designation. Following the restructuring and incorporation of former Donetsk People’s Republic formations into the Russian Armed Forces, the regiment was reorganized as the 114th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade. It has since operated as a motorized infantry formation associated with the 51st Combined Arms Army and has participated in major fighting during the Russo-Ukrainian War, including operations around Avdiivka.
The Enakievo-Danube honorary title also draws on an older Soviet military lineage associated with the 40th Guards Rifle Division. That formation received the “Enakievo” distinction in 1943 following fighting for Yenakiieve and the “Danube” designation in 1945 following operations across the Danube.
