This embroidered patch is a reproduction of the DPRK national roundel worn on the upper sleeves of personnel representing multiple branches and formations of the North Korean armed forces.
The circular design features a red five-pointed star centered within a white disk and broad red field, surrounded by narrow white trim and a dark-blue outer ring. Derived directly from the national flag of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the roundel served as a compact national identification marking in place of a conventional rectangular flag patch.
Photographic evidence shows this insignia worn with several types of North Korean military and security uniforms, including camouflage combat uniforms, naval dress uniforms and black tactical uniforms. It was therefore not exclusive to the Ministry of Social Security or any single military branch.
This reproduction is suitable for historical displays, uniform reconstructions, reenactment projects, research collections and collections of North Korean military insignia.

Historical Context
A roundel is a circular national or military identification marking most commonly associated with military aircraft. North Korea’s roundel incorporates the central elements of the DPRK national flag: a red star within a white disk, a red surrounding field and blue-and-white border details.
The textile uniform version was publicly introduced during the October 10, 2020 military parade commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. It appeared alongside newly displayed combat and tactical uniforms and was subsequently documented on personnel from several military and public-security formations.
The patch remained visible during the 2021 parade cycle and was still in broad use during the April 25, 2022 military parade, where it appeared on camouflage, naval and Ministry of Social Security tactical uniforms. By the February 2023 military parade, the plain national roundel had largely been replaced by more specialized branch, bureau and unit insignia.
The most accurately documented public-use period for this uniform patch is therefore October 2020 through April 2022. Its precise internal issue and withdrawal dates are not publicly known, and its use may have been concentrated among parade formations and selected units rather than every member of the North Korean armed forces.
