This subdued airborne wings patch is a historical reproduction inspired by Nicaraguan Air Force (FAN – Fuerza Aérea Nicaragüense) parachutist qualification insignia used during the Cold War era. The design features a central parachute flanked by stylized wings, the initials “FAN” above the canopy, and a blue roundel at the base—elements derived from documented metal airborne wing badges associated with Nicaraguan military aviation and airborne personnel.
Rendered in a subdued olive drab and black color scheme with a retained blue roundel, this patch reflects period-appropriate field adaptations and unofficial cloth interpretations commonly produced for wear alongside service uniforms and field gear. The layout and proportions were scaled to closely match original qualification wing formats while remaining practical for modern wear and collection.

Historical Context
During the 1960s–1970s, Nicaragua maintained airborne and parachutist-qualified personnel within its military aviation and security structure. Parachutist qualifications were typically represented by metal wing badges incorporating international airborne symbolism—wings, parachute canopy, and national markings.
While cloth versions were not formally standardized across all units, locally produced and subdued adaptations are consistent with regional military practices of the era. This patch represents a parachutist qualification design, not a specific unit designation, and is based on surviving badge examples and collector research.

The famous airborne wings of the Nicaraguan National Guard’s “Gansos Salvajes” came out awesome! It’s great to have an interpretation of what their airborne wings could have looked like, if they had produced a cloth version of that badge. I’m very happy with this patch!
