Historical Context
The Front de Libération Nationale Corse, or FLNC, was founded in 1976 as an underground Corsican nationalist organization seeking independence from France. Its formation became public in May 1976 through a coordinated series of bomb attacks. Over the following decades, its campaign included attacks against French administrative buildings, security installations, and properties associated with tourism and outside investment.
The organization experienced significant internal divisions, including a split in 1990 into factions commonly identified as the Canal Historique and Canal Habituel. The Moor’s head featured on this patch predates the FLNC and belongs to Corsica’s broader historical identity; the accompanying initials identify this particular design with the organization.
