Historical Context
The Marksist Leninist Komünist Parti, commonly abbreviated MLKP, was established in Turkey in 1994 through the merger of several underground Marxist-Leninist organizations. Its ideological roots developed from anti-revisionist currents within the Turkish communist movement, including organizations influenced by Albanian-style Marxism-Leninism.
The organization has historically operated in Turkey and Kurdish-populated regions through clandestine political activity, youth and women’s organizations, propaganda work, and armed militancy. During the Syrian Civil War, MLKP members gained increased international visibility through their participation alongside Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria. Some members also became associated with the International Freedom Battalion, a coalition of foreign and regional left-wing armed groups formed during the conflict.
The emblem uses the traditional hammer and sickle to represent industrial workers and the agricultural peasantry. The five-pointed star is a long-established symbol of revolutionary communism and international socialist movements.
