Historical Context
The KdA served as the paramilitary organisation of the German Democratic Republic from 1953 until its disbandment in December 1989. Their emblem — the rifle with red flag — symbolised the armed defence of the “worker-and-farmers power” under socialist rule. This cockade variant was worn on headgear such as side-caps (Schiffchen) by KdA members and remains an identifiable piece of Cold War-era uniform insignia.
