Description:
This patch features the Eryr Wen, or “White Eagle,” a symbol historically associated with Welsh nationalist movements, most notably the Free Wales Army (FWA) of the 1960s. The sharp, angular white eagle on a black background is a stylized interpretation designed by Welsh poet Harri Webb in 1952. It draws inspiration from the ancient prophecy of Mab Darogan, which foretold a liberator rising from the eagles of Snowdonia to free the Welsh people.
Adopted by the FWA as an emblem of Welsh resistance and self-determination, the symbol has remained a powerful statement of identity and cultural pride. Today, it continues to be used by republican and language-rights activists throughout Wales.
