1st Slavyansk Brigade Patch

Often viewed as the first official battle of the current 9+ year war in Donbass, the Siege of Slavyansk saw Col. Igor Strelkov’s ragtag unit of volunteers, the 1^st Slavyansk Brigade, hold the key city of Slavyansk in the west of DNR for over 80 days against vastly larger and fully-equipped Ukrainian Army formations. Despite the eventual need to retreat, the actions of these heroic men in Slavyansk in 2014 kickstarted the growth of the People’s Militias of Novorossiya, and solidified the proverbial line in the sand that Donbass would never again exist as part of Ukraine. Nearly a decade later, the 1^st Slavyansk Brigade, one of the original volunteer defense formations of Novorossiya, still fights on, but under the new banner of the “1^st Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade Slavyansk” as a fully integrated unit of the 1^st Donetsk Army Corps of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
